Nigeria LNG Availability To Recover After 40-Year Low: NLNG

LNG

Nigeria has been seeing an improvement in oil pipeline availability since the government and state oil firm NNPC LTD stepped-up efforts in August to fight pipeline theft, Nigeria LNG said.

  • Monthly oil production fell to the lowest level since 1980 in August, below 1mn p/d, amid pipeline theft, also weighing on gas availability, as the majority of Nigeria’s gas comes as a by-products of oil output.
  • In August, the government and NNPC launched efforts to avoid further theft by hiring protection for the pipelines.
  • “We have begun to see improvement in the availability of key crude oil transportation trunklines. If this trend is sustained, we expect it will support improved gas supply to NLNG once currently flooded oil and gas infrastructures becomes accessible," NLNG spokesman Andy Odeh said to Reuters.
  • NLNG’s current Train 7 project has been 32% completed and will increase output from 22mtpa to 30mtpa. The plant is expected to be commissioned by 2025.
