Nigeria's Port Harcourt Refinery in to Start Operations in Dec: NNPC

REFINING

The Port Harcourt oil refinery in Nigeria is due to start operations in December 2023 according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.

  • The aim is for Nigeria to no longer require petrol imports from a year after the start according to chief executive Mele Kyari.
  • The Warri refinery is due to start in Q1 2024, Kyari added, followed by the Kaduna refinery at the end of the year.
  • Nigeria is suffering from a lack of refining capacity, forcing it reliant on imports of refined produces but NNPCL is committed to position Nigeria as a net exporter of petroleum products.
  • Nigeria’s three state-owned refineries have a combined capacity of 445k b/d.
