OIL: New Alberta Wildfire Breaks Out Near Kirby Oil Sands

A wildfire is within 10km of Canadian Natural’s Kirby oil sands, according to data from Alberta Wildfire and Alberta Energy Regulator cited by Bloomberg.

  • The fire near the well site that produced 36.6kb/d in May is one of a cluster of six out-of-control blazes in the area.
  • Another wildfire covering 25 hectares broke out near Slave Lake and is within 10km of Headwater Exploration oil output of 9.2kb/d and gas output of 1.9kboe/d but Headwater is not currently affected.
  • A wildfire south of Fort McMurray has moved closer to Kearl oil sands causing Imperial Oil to begin removing non-essential staff.
