Oman LNG May Fill Supply Gas with New Train From 2029: Platts

LNG

Oman LNG is in early discussions with the government to expand production with its fourth train, according to Platts.

  • This could add up to 30% more capacity and could fill the shortage seen from 2029 onwards, its CMO Mahmoud al-Baloushi told Platts.
  • Oman LNG has three trains with a total production capacity of 11.4m mtpa, with a fourth train adding up to 3.6mhi -3.7m mtpa
  • Around 10-15% of Oman’s sales are via the spot market. The remainder are Brent-indexed term contracts.
  • Most of Oman’s spot trading is with Asian buyers, with other sources more competitive for European importers.
  • Platts assessed the JKM delivered price at $10.33/MMBtu April 22, down from $11.25/MMBtu since the start of 2024.
  • Prices are down due to additional supply and some buyers turning to coal.
