OMV Says Gazprom Flows to Austria Continuing as Normal

NATGAS

OMV is currently unaware of any irregularities in Gazprom’s gas supplies to Austria, the company said, cited by Bloomberg.

  • The response by OMV was in answer to questions on whether it had transferred its June 20 payment for Gazprom deliveries received at the border.
  • Gazprom provides OMV with around 6 bcm of natural gas per year.
  • The issue with supply comes in relation to a ruling in a Swedish court which awarded Uniper around EUR13 billion in damages from Gazprom due to undelivered gas during the 2022 energy crisis.
  • As Gazprom is unlikely to pay and has few assets left in Europe, payment could be rerouted from European companies still receiving Russian gas, such as Austria’s OMV.
  • Were this to occur, Gazprom would likely cut off the remaining flows to Europe.
