Opposition Leaders To Release Joint Statement At 19:00IST/17:00GMT

ISRAEL

The Times of Israel reports that leaders of Israel's main opposition parties will release a joint statement to the press at 7pm local time.

  • They did not provide any details on the contents of the statement but are expected to address the ongoing political crisis and President Isaac Herzog's compromise proposal for a judicial framework.
  • The statement will be given by the leaders of Yesh Atid, National Unity, Yisrael Beytenu and Ra’am, the four largest parliamentary opposition parties all of which participated in the previous government.
  • President Isaac Herzog yesterday announced a judicial reform proposal, which was quickly rejected by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Herzog subsequently noted that his proposal could serve as a starting point for further talks.
