Orchestrated Israel Attack on Iran Explains Oil Move: Macquarie

OIL

The escalation from the latest Israel/Iran response will be contained and appears well orchestrated according to Macquarie’s Managing Director of Securities Viktor Schvets.

  • “My view was that Israel was always bound to respond” Schvets said.
  • “I think Israel will try to calibrate [the severity] of the response as much as possible” he said.
  • “We have so much risk in the world, one of the things I keep highlighting, if the risk is everywhere, the risk is nowhere, whether its Russia/Ukraine, whether it’s the Middle East, whether its oil prices, the risk is everywhere.” Schvets added.
  • “The market always shoots first and then thinks later, that’s why you have today’s movements in the market price” he said.
  • “I’m still in the camp that escalation will be contained” Schvets said.
  • Schvets highlights that both Iranian and Israeli attacks have been well reported for days in advance, referring to them as a “well-orchestrated dance rather than a surprise”, helping to explain the oil price reaction.
