Parliament Begins Session, Ruling Party Debates European Election Candidate List

  • The lower house of parliament (Sejm) begins a three-day meeting today. The session will start with a speech from Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who will outline Poland's foreign policy plan for 2024. Lawmakers are also set to start working on legislation overhauling the Constitutional Tribunal.
  • Prime Minister Donald Tusk's Civic Coalition is expected to internally approve its list of candidates for the European election. This will affect the scope of the impending Cabinet reshuffle, with a number of ministers likely preparing to leave for Brussels.
  • The NBP confirmed a financial loss of PLN20.8bn for FY2023. The government accuses NBP Governor Adam Glapinski of misleading it over the projected size of the gap during the process of drafting the 2024 budget.
  • Statistics Poland will report the unemployment rate for the month of March at 09:00BST/10:00CEST. Consensus sees the jobless rate ticking lower to 5.3% from 5.4% recorded in February.
