Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has released a letter addressed to Democratic party colleagues expressing frustration at the Trump administration, but saying she is 'hopeful' that the White House will "finally join us to recognize the needs of the American people" in getting a COVID-19 stimulus deal agreed.
- Says the administration put forward a proposal over the weekend that was "one step forwards, two steps back".
- "...Trump proposal falls significantly short of what this pandemic and deep recession demand."
- The prospects of a deal being reached by election day remain slim, with Pelosi raising the prospect of stimulus cheques being sent out just before polling day in a blaze of publicity for the president.
