Permian Oil Output Growth Rate Slows

OIL

The rate of growth in the US Permian basin is the slowest since February when freezing weather shut in production according to the latest EIA data. The small monthly increase of just 767bpd of oil in July suggests drillers continue to maintain fiscal discipline under ongoing inflation and investor pressure.

  • Total US oil output from top shale-producing regions is forecast to rise to the highest on record in July, but the size of the increase is expected to be the smallest since December.
  • The supply of pre-drilled US shale wells dropped for a fifth straight month suggesting the drillers aim to bring production on quickly in the near term.
