Petro, Hernandez Proceed To Presidential Runoff

COLOMBIA

With almost all of the votes already counted, frontrunner Gustavo Petro is set to face off with Rodolfo Hernandez in the second round of Colombia's presidential election.

  • Petro took the lead with 40.31% of the vote, with Hernandez lagging at 28.20%, as more than 99% of the votes have been counted.
  • This means that Colombia is heading for a runoff between a left-wing senator and an anti-establishment outsider, with conservative Federico Gutierrez out of the race.
  • In a video streamed online, Hernandez said that the next few days will be decisive for the future of Colombia, adding that he is aware of the difficulties when he wins.
