Petronet Not Seeking Further Qatari LNG Volumes

India’s largest gas import Petronet is not seeking additional LNG volumes as part of the renewal of its long-term LNG supply deal with Qatar, according to Reuters citing its head of finance V. K Mishra.

  • "We are going for renewal of the contract. Renewal means it will be of same quantity," Mishra said, without expanding further.
  • Petronet has a 7.5m mtpa long-term LNG import deal with Qatar but had previously said it would look to add another 1m mtpa as part of the renewal.
  • Indian companies have until the end of 2023 to negotiate with Qatar to renew deals to beyond 2028, Reuters said.
  • Qatar is trying to tie up most of its upcoming capacity expansion through long-term supply deals. It recently signed contracts with Total, Shell, ENI, and Sinopec.
