PM's Office Minister Resigns Amid Pending ConCourt Case
THAILAND
Thai media outlets report that PM's Office Minister Pichit Chuenban has stepped down as the Constitutional Court is expected to decide on Thursday on whether to accept a petition filed by 40 Senators asking the court to review Pichit's eligibility to serve in the Cabinet and PM Srettha Thavisin's decision to appoint him.
- Thai Enquirer cites Jade Donavatnik, a lecturer at the College of Asian Scholars, as noting that the court might dismiss the petition against Pichit as it is no longer relevant, but might still decide to investigate Srettha's case.
- Reminder that Srettha is facing the accusation of appointing Pichit to a Cabinet position despite knowing that he is not eligible to take office. The government insists that Pichit had the right to join the Cabinet as his ban on holding public office expired.
