Polling Seat Projections Show Fmr PM Rasmussen's Moderates As Kingmaker

DENMARK

The latest seat projections based on opinion polling ahead of the 1 November general election shows former Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen's centrist Moderates set to emerge as kingmakers following the vote, with the potential to keep a centre-left coalition in power or bring a centre-right gov't to office.

  • The seat projection shows that the Moderates could form a coalition alongside PM Mette Frederiksen's Social Democrats, the Socialist People's Party, the Social Liberal Party, and the two Greenlandic members to hold a majority of 90 seats. This would not require the inclusion of the far-left Red-Green Alliance, with which the Moderates would likely find it difficult to work.
  • Alternatively, if the Moderates and all the parties of the right (Venstre, Liberal Alliance, Conservative People's Party, Danish People's Party, New Right, Denmark Democrats) were to band together, they would hold 90 seats. This gov't would likely be a minority one, with the right-wing nationalist New Right, Denmark Democrats, and Danish People's Party potentially proving to extreme for the Moderates to work with in gov't.
