Bulgaria’s NEK has launched a tender to replace two turbines – 216MW each – at its 864MW Chaira hydro pump storage plant, with 42 months set as the deadline to complete works, it said, cited by RenewablesNow.

  • Bids will be able to be placed until 15 November and will be for the replacement of units 1 and 4.
  • The contract is worth around €112.7mn.
  • The plant has been offline since March 2022 amid a breakdown and has four units.
  • “The implementation of this large-scale project will contribute to the successful integration of the increasing production of electricity from renewable sources,” the energy ministry said.
