President Biden And Mexican Pres Obrador To Hold Call Shortly
US
US President Joe Biden and his Mexican counterpart Andrés Manuel López Obrador are due to hold a call at the top of the hour.
- The call comes amid increasing debate in the United States Congress over the extension of the Trump era 'Title 42' which allows US border authorities to refuse entry to migrants on COVID-19 prevention grounds.
- The leaders are expected to discuss migration, security, and economic cooperation ahead of the Summit of the Americas in June.
- A White House official per Bloomberg: 'We obviously hope that [Mexico] will join us in imposing a cost on the Kremlin for what it is doing in its brutal & unprovoked war on on Ukraine by working with us to enforce sanctions implemented by the United States & our partners.'
- Mexico abstained from the UN vote to expel Russia from the UN Human Rights Council and the US led Western alliance has had limited success in convincing democracies in the developing world to support taking a hard line against Russia.
