President Ramaphosa Could Reshuffle Cabinet After Budget Speech-M&G

SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa could announce the much awaited reshuffle of his Cabinet after Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana delivers the budget speech next Wednesday, the Mail & Guardian reports.

  • Insiders told the M&G that Ramaphosa informed the ruling ANC party's National Working Committee (NEC) about his intentions on Monday, reassuring officials that the announcement was a "matter of time."
  • "The three party leaders who spoke to M&G said they expected Ramaphosa to announce replacements for Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula and former Public Administrations Minister Ayanda Dlodlo," the outlet notes.
  • Ramaphosa is also expected to appoint the new Electricity Minister, who will act as a "project manager" and coordinate the response to the energy crisis. The M&G cites speculation that the portfolio could be given to someone from Ramaphosa's inner circle of current and former strategic advisors.
