UK: Prospects of a Brexit deal being agreed to by the end of the European
Council summit tomorrow have declined rapidly following the DUP's statement that
they will not support the deal in its current form.
- Yesterday evening many pundits reported DUP were happy with customs and
consent arrangements, with VAT the only remaining hurdle. Statement this morning
scotches those reports, with DUP stating they can't agree with either customs
nor consent mechanisms.
- Without the DUP's support the gov't will be reluctant to bring any deal to the
Commons in a special Saturday sitting, as they are unlikely to have the numbers
to get it through in that scenario.
- The UK gov't stating that it will continue to work with the DUP to try to get
a deal agreed to, with the EU, Dublin and Westminster all seemingly happy with
the deal hashed out in recent days, with the DUP the only remaining hurdle.
- Figures from betdata.io (compiling Betfair betting odds) shows decline in
belief UK will leave EU on/before 31 Oct, falling to a 17% probability from 26%
yesterday.
