Protests In Focus, Labour Minister Resigns

  • Thousands took to the streets of Peru's capital Lima on Thursday in a peaceful protest against the new government and president. Clashes across the nation that started in early December have marked Peru's worst outbreak of violence in more than 20 years, however the march on Thursday, organized by trade unions and leftist groups, took place without incident.
  • Peru Labor Minister Eduardo Garcia offered his resignation to President Dina Boluarte due to the 49 deaths from protests in the Puno and Cusco regions, RPP reported.
    • Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Thursday affirmed that Boluarte is firm in leading the country, adding that she will not resign her post —in response to the request of some authorities and protesters.
