Pulse Asia Poll Confirms Marcos-Duterte Tandem Holds Wide Lead

PHILIPPINES

Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. holds a comfortable lead ahead of the upcoming presidential election, the latest poll by Pulse Asia showed. As many as 60% of respondents named Marcos as their most preferred candidates, while runner-up Leni Robredo scored just 16%. Marcos remains the front-runner across all socio-economic groups and all geographic areas.

  • The poll also confirmed that Marcos' running mate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is on course for winning the vice presidential election. Half of the respondents backed her bid, with runner-up Vicente "Tito" Sotto III trailing at 29%.
  • The Marcos-Duterte tandem remains in pole position despite avoiding direct clashes with their rivals. Both will skip debates held by CNN Philippines on February 26 and 27 after Marcos refused to take part in a media forum with all presidential candidates earlier this month.
  • Note that Philippine voters elect President and Vice-President by casting two separate ballots rather than by selecting a single ticket. In each race, the candidate with the highest number of votes is declared winner, whether or not they have majority of votes.
