Putin Says Gazprom Ready To Fulfil Obligations, Warns NS Gas Flows May Drop

RUSSIA

Speaking during his state visit to Iran, Russian President Putin said Gazprom was ready to fulfil its contractual obligations on gas exports. At the same time, he warned that the volume of gas flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline could drop if the return of a turbine sent to Canada for repairs is delayed.

  • Putin noted that another turbine needs to be sent for maintenance around July 26. He added that supply volume could be reduced to ~30mcm/day if the number of operating turbins is reduced to one from the current two.
  • Earlier on Tuesday, Reuters circulated a source report noting that gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 are expected to resume on time (Thursday), after the completion of planned maintenance works.
  • Putin was in Tehran for talks with Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei and Turkish President Erdogan. The leaders discussed geopolitical matters related to the situation in Syria and Ukraine.
