FED: Q&A continues:
Q: Is climate change a systematic risk? Why hasn't Fed signed up to Greening of
Financial System, as other cenbanks?
- A: If you look at our mandate, we share overall financial stability with other
agencies. Need to ensure financial system is resilient against climate change.
We're in the early stages of understanding what that means; has to be part of
our role, but not the overall response of society to climate change. Re Greening
etc, we are at meetings, taking part in them.
Q: When will investment pick up post- USMCA / Phase One trade deal?
- A: Positive developments in past few months. But trade policy uncertainty
remains elevated, businesses identify it. Still 2 / 3 trade negotiations going
on in the public sphere, so it hasn't gone away as a risk. Still a wait-and-see
attitude. We need to be a little bit patient.
