UK DATA: Q3 September Retail Sales +0.6% q/q; Adds 0.03pp to Q3 GDP

After a strong showing in August, retail sales activity retreated 
in September, falling 0.8% on the month. Non-food stores provided the 
greatest downward pressure, falling 1.5% m/m, and within this Other 
Stores (which accounts for 13% of total retail sales) fell 6.7% m/m - 
the lowest rate of growth since Jan 15. An ONS official said that the 
marked fall witnessed in other store sales volumes was driven by reduced 
sales at opticians. September's outturn means that sales volumes rose 
0.6%, and given the sector accounts for 5.4% of total output (revised 
down from 5.6%) it is set to add 0.03pp to GDP growth in the penultimate 
quarter of 2017. The implied deflator rose by 3.3%, highest since 2012.
