Raisi Holds Call w/Putin As US Seeks To Stymie Drone Production

IRAN

Russia's state-run Tass citing the Kremlin stating that President Vladimir Putin held a call with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi. States that the two leaders 'discussed energy and transport projects'.

  • Relations between Iran and Russia have come under intense international scrutiny as the West has accused Iran of sending drones to Russia for use in its invasion of Ukraine.
  • Speaking in Mexico City on 10 Jan, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stated that "[Iran's] weapons are being used to kill civilians in Ukraine and to try to plunge cities into cold and darkness which, from our point of view, puts Iran in a place where it could potentially be contributing to widespread war crimes,"
  • The US has said it is considering more sanctions and export controls on Iran in an effort to halt the country's ability to produce drones.
