Ramaphosa To Announce Cabinet Reshuffle, Eskom Runs Stage 4 Load-Shedding

SOUTH AFRICA
  • President Cyril Ramaphosa will announce the reshuffle of his Cabinet today at 17:00GMT/19:00SAST, his spokesperson told reporters. Local media last week suggested that the Cabinet revamp was delayed due to Ramaphosa's ill health, albeit the President was able to attend a cattle auction on Friday. As part of the imminent reshuffle, Ramaphosa is expected to tap Paul Mashatile to replace David Mabuza as South Africa's Deputy President. He will also fill the newly created post of an Electricity Minister and should unveil nominations for the Administration Minister and Transport Minister.
  • Eskom announced that it would be implementing Stage 4 load-shedding until Tuesday morning, before alternating between Stages 3 and 4 until further notice. The utility said that breakdowns amounted to 17,340MW of generating capacity, with a further 5,654MW out of service for planned maintenance.
  • There is little in the way of notable data releases today, but Q4 GDP figures will cross the wires tomorrow.
