RBA: RBA Governor Lowe is due to speak at 13:05 AEST, 04:05 London. The topic of
the Governor's address is "Inflation Targeting & Economic Welfare."
- Meanwhile, the AFR writes that "Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has revealed he is
assessing the key monetary policy agreement between the federal government and
the Reserve Bank of Australia before signing this pivotal document which for
more than two decades has framed central bank decisions on whether interest
rates should go up or down. Frydenberg told The Australian Financial Review that
the statement was being reviewed, but confirmed that he intends to sign it. "I
will be signing an agreement in due course, but am currently taking advice from
Treasury, after which I will have a discussion with the governor." It is
understood that any changes would be around the margins, if at all, to ensure
the statement is appropriate for the times - code for the low-inflation
environment which has created a conundrum for central banks globally."
- Q2 CPI is due Wednesday 31 July.
