FREIGHT: Red Sea Risk Grows as Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Stalls: BIMCO
FREIGHT
The security threat for shippers transiting the Red Sea areas is increasing because of a delay in the progression of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, BIMCO’s chief safety and security officer Jakob Larsen said, cited by Bloomberg.
- The delay in reaching phase two of the ceasefire agreement increases risk to merchant ships.
- The Houthis have threatened that it would restart attacks if the ceasefire broke down.
- “The security threat is increasing and the associated risk to merchant ships goes up a notch,” Larsen said, cited by Bloomberg.
- “I expect it will take a while yet before trade can again flow freely and securely through the Southern Red Sea”
