Regional, Mayoral Election Exit Polls At 1500CET

Polls open for the second day of mayoral elections in Italy's largest cities as well as regional election in Calabria.

  • Polls set to close at 1500CET (0900ET, 1400BST), with exit polls expected to be released in the immediate aftermath.
  • Focus on the Calabrian regional election, where the parties of the centre-right are looking to hold onto the regional presidency, and the capital Rome where 5-Star Movement Mayor Virginia Raggi is looking to make it into the second-round run off.
  • The mayoral and regional contests are seen as important for nearly all parties in PM Mario Draghi's broad coalition gov't, but none moreso than for the populist 5-Star Movement. The contests in Rome and Turin (where M5S mayors sit as incumbents) are seen as crucial tests of the party's continued support and ability to retain office once power has been gained.
