Restart Of Freeport LNG Plant May Be Delayed Further

ENERGY SECURITY

Reuters has reported that plans to restart the Freeport LNG plant in Texas may be delayed until the end of February, or later, as regulatory issues remain unresolved.

  • Retuers: "There has been no official messaging, but nobody expects any cargoes until end-February at the earliest," one of the sources said. "Second half of January is now out of sight," another source said."
  • Freeport accounts for ~20% of US LNG exports and the resumption of operations is considered crucial to facilitate a greater level of LNG trade between the US and Europe.
  • Reuters notes that although a Freeport LNG spokeswoman said the restart timeline is still in place, "many analysts do not expect the plant to return until the first or second quarter because the company still has a lot of work to do to satisfy regulators."
