Retail Sales, Canada Join US In Launching Disputes Over Energy Policy

  • Canada on Wednesday said it would launch its own consultations with Mexico over energy policies, which it says are inconsistent with USMCA, supporting a similar move announced earlier by the United States.
    • "We agree with the United States that these policies are inconsistent with Mexico's USMCA obligations," Alice Hansen, spokeswoman for Canada's International Trade Minister Mary Ng, said in a statement to Reuters.
  • President AMLO, at his daily press conference said that Mexico continue negotiations with US on energy policy and that the government are acting in country's public interest on energy.
  • AMLO added that Mexico energy policy protects against voracious firms and that energy policy complies with Mexico’s laws and the constitution.
  • Overnight, Mexico Energy Minister Rocio Nahle said the government has no problem with the US or Canada about the North America’s free-trade deal, after both countries said Mexico’s nationalist energy policies violate the deal.
