Russia To Call UNSC Meeting Over Nord Stream Damage-FM Spox

Russian Foreign Ministry spox Maria Zakharova states that the gov't will call on the UN to convene a Security Council meeting over damage to the Nord Stream pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

  • Western officials have implied that Russia sabotaged the pipelines, but this has been strenuously denied by the Kremlin. Germany's Tagesspiegel reporting earlier today that the German security authorities stating that the pipelines may be 'destroyed forever'.
  • Comes as the Norwegian military confirms that it will increase its visibility near key oil and gas infrastructure. Norway is now the single largest gas supplier to Europe, raising concerns about the vulnerability of pipelines to foreign attack and the subsequent impact.
  • PM Jonas Gahr Store states that 'any attack on Norwegian offshore installations would be handled jointly with our allies' (Norway is a NATO member state).
