Russian Diesel Exports Fall in April and Expect Further Decline in May

DIESEL

Exports of diesel from the Baltic port of Primorsk in Russia fell month on month in April according to tanker-tracking and port data via Bloomberg.

  • Shipments were about 1.74m tons (435k b/d) in April compared to 2.07m tons in March. Despite the decline exports are still well above the seasonal norm for April.
  • Stronger than expected Russian exports since the introduction of EU sanctions on oil products at the start of February have been a driver of weak global diesel markets.
  • Diesel exports from Russia’s western ports are expected to fall sharply in May due to spring refinery maintenance. May loadings are planned at 1.67m in May down from 2.38m tons in April according to Bloomberg.
