Russian Gas Exports Fall Year on Year

Russian gas pipeline exports to Europe (incl. Turkey) and China fell to 6.9bcm in August, 57% lower than Aug last year according to Energy Intelligence.

  • In Jan to Aug gas exports to Europe and China fell 37% to 82.2bcm compared to last year.
  • On Wednesday Gazprom said Jan-Aug exports to China increased 60% which would be 9.9bcm based on Chinese customs data. This would suggest a Jan -Aug supply to Europe of 72.3bcm, down 42% year on year.
  • Russia plans for an increase in gas exports to China from 10.4bcm in 2021 to 15bcm in 2022 and up to 38bcm by 2025.
