Russia’s Urals Crude Building on Water in Baltic Sea

OIL

Volumes of Russia’s Urals crude on idle tankers in the Baltic Sea are increasing, likely hit by greater enforcement of sanctions, according to Bloomberg.

  • Four tankers holding about 3m bbl of Urals crude have been idle for at least a week near Ust-Luga. A fifth tanker has been idle for six days.
  • Bloomberg noted that it is unusual for Urals tankers to be idle after loadings, with vessels usually sailing for their destination immediately.
  • None of the ships is believed to be subject to sanctions themselves.
  • Russia’s sokol crude flows have also been disrupted. Around 12m bbl of Sokol is idling in the Pacific Ocean after being bound for India.
