RWE Expect Germany to be Free of Russian Gas in 2025

Germany can wean itself off Russian gas within the next three years according to Markus Krebber, CEO of power producer RWE, speaking to newspaper Frankfurter Allgemaine Sonntagszeitung.

  • "If we expand quickly, we can make it by spring 2025. The supply problems might be somewhat manageable a year earlier," according to Krebber.
  • The German government predicts they will be able to manage without Russian gas in 2024, reiterated as part of the LNG deal signed with Qatar today.
  • With regards to Russian gas supplies, Krebber said "I expect a further shortage of gas supplies and not that someone will turn off the gas tap completely."
