SARB Says Economic Activity In S. Africa Decreased In 4Q2022

SARB

The SARB noted in its Quarterly Bulletin that "economic activity in South Africa decreased in the fourth quarter of 2022" as the escalating energy crisis and logistical issues will likely hamper recovery from the damage inflicted by pandemic-era lockdowns.

  • "Annual growth in real GDP slowed from 4.9% in 2021 to 2.0% in 2022, with the level of real GDP only 0.3% higher than in 2019 before the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic."
