Saudi Arab Light Prices to Asia May Pause Next Month: Bloomberg Survey

OIL

Saudi may refrain from increasing Arab Light prices for Asian customers next month according to a Bloomberg survey – it would mark the first pause in six months.

  • The pause in Arab Light to Asia is suggested from the median of seven traders and refiners surveyed by Bloomberg.
  • Asian demand has been forecast to be impacted by higher prices in some sell side forecasts. Citigroup for example forecasts crude flows into China are set to “stay more moderate” as high prices may limit purchases for stockpiling.
  • China has also built-up significant stockpiles earlier in the year at cheaper prices.
  • Physical spot premiums for Arab Light started to slump in the final week of the trading cycle for December-loading barrels in Asia as Chinese buyers were less active according to Bloomberg.
  • Saudi Aramco usually releases its OSP’s in the first five days of the new month.
