Saudi Largest Crude Supplier to China in October

Chinese imports of Russian crude came in at 7.72 million tonnes in October according to General Administration of Customs data on Sunday. It is the equivalents of 1.82 million bpd – steady with September but remains shy of the near 2mn bpd record in May.

  • Chinese imports of Russian oil were 16% higher in October than a year prior.
  • Russian Urals purchases by Chinese buyers have slowed recently in the run up to EU sanctions and an expected announcement on a price cap.
  • Saudi shipments rose 12% from a year earlier to 7.93 million tonnes in October, or 1.87 million bpd, versus September's 1.83 million bpd.
  • Saudi remained China’s top supplier in October.
  • Arrivals of crude oil from the United States jumped more than fivefold in October from a year earlier.
