Scott's Trump Endorsement Delivers Blow To Haley

US

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), a former Presidential candidate who withdrew from the race last year, has formally endorsed Donald Trump for president in 2024.

  • Scott's endorsement is another blow to former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, whose narrow track to the GOP nomination is rapidly closing. Haley, who appointed Scott to the Senate in 2012, had hoped to take momentum from next week's New Hampshire primary into South Carolina, the next primary contest.
  • According to data from Smarkets, Trump is now given a 93.5% implied probability of winning the nomination. A remarkably high probability which, considering the wildcard of Trump's ongoing criminal trials, suggests that betting markets see no pathway to unseating Trump via the nomination process.
  • Scott has been touted as a potential Vice Presidential selection for Trump. Semafor has a rundown of likely VPs here.
