UK: Second day of Supreme Court hearing regarding the legality of gov't
proroguing parliament is underway.
- Sir James Eadie QC delivers gov't response to anti-Brexit activist Gina
Miller's case this morning (until 1300BST).
- Afterwards lawyers of SNP MP Joanna Cherry QC make submissions regarding
Scottish case, where last week
gov't was ruled to have acted illegally (1400-1600BST).
- No judgement expected until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, with former PM
Sir John Major delivering oral intervention from 1140BST arguing prorogation is
illegal.
- Initial broad consensus is that govt' will win the case and prorogation will
continue. However, non-negligible chance gov't is defeated. If so PM Johnson is
put in very difficult position, while prorogation date would be brought forward.
