SEFE’s LNG Contract with Russia Should End: Gov Official

SEFE should end its agreement to lift LNG from Russia’s Yamal facility, Philipp Steinberg, who heads the German Economy Ministry’s department for economic stabilisation and energy security said, according to Bloomberg.

• “This is something that needs to be terminated asap,” he wrote on Twitter, noting that the government must deal with “certain facts.”
• SEFE has faced criticism as it is set to obtain LNG from Russia for the first time since Germany nationalised the company during the 2022 energy crisis, according to Bloomberg.
• on Oct. 1 SEFE plans to load LNG produced by the Yamal plant in Siberia, port data shows.
• SEFE doesn’t plan to import LNG into Germany. It is set to pick up the cargo in Belgium and ship it to India.
• An economy spokeswoman on Monday said she couldn’t provide details as to how SEFE’s contract to handle Russian LNG could be cancelled, adding that a review is under way.
