SOCAR Plans to Boost Turkey’s STAR Refinery Capacity to 13m mt

Azerbaijan’s SOCAR plans to increase capacity at its STAR refinery in Turkey to 13m mtpa in 2024, according to Interfax, citing the General Director of the Turkish Petkim Petrokimya Holding Kanan Mirzaev.

  • According to him, the STAR refinery supplies 25% of Turkey's demand for petroleum products and occupies 19.5% of the country's domestic market.
  • The refinery’s capacity had already been increased from 10m mtpa to 12m mtpa, Mirzaev added.
  • The STAR refinery started operations in October 2018 and was designed to process a range of crude grades such as Azeri Light, Kerkuk and Urals. Currently, the plant can process over 20 crude grades, but is more adapted to heavier varieties.
