Some Kremlin Insiders Souring on War Effort

  • Bloomberg reports that a number of elite members of the Kremlin are questioning Putin’s decision to go to war with Ukraine. The piece cites unnamed sources in stating that a number of critics, spread across high level government posts as well as state run businesses, believe the invasion was a catastrophic mistake and could set back Russia for years – although the piece concedes that ranks of the critics close to the top remain limited for now.
  • The latest update from Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that the battle for Mariupol is continuing, but the situation remains “severe” with Ukrainian defenders at a central steel plant outnumbered while Russia block humanitarian corridors into and out of the territory.
  • Today, Putin meets with a series of CEOs and senior business representatives across the commodities industry.
