Further headlines coming from the ongoing ANC press briefing regarding coalition talks. Official says that "At this point in time the conversation is looking at a gov't of national unity". Adds that "Which parties will form part of the future gov't is a function of ongoing negotiations.

  • The earlier IOL article claiming that the 'ANC proposes formation of government of national unity' may have been a little premature, but this presser would certainly seem to be laying the groundwork for such a proposal to be run up the flagpole at some point in the near future. 
  • With MK seemingly not involved in talks at present, this could see President Cyril Ramaphosa retain his position. Ramaphosa's ouster likely an essential condition for the party led by former President Jacob Zuma.
