South/Southeast Asian LNG Imports to Rise 12% YoY This Summer

South and Southeast Asian LNG imports are forecast to rise by 12% on the year to 34.7mn tons this summer, as cheaper LNG spot cargoes, an increase in contracted volumes and newly commissioned LNG import facilities are driving LNG appetite according to BNEF.

  • Indian LNG demand is expected to rise 5% on the year with LNG imports forecast at 12.3mn tons during April-September. India’s 2024 imports are forecast to rise by 11% on the year to 24.2mn tons.
  • Pakistan’s LNG imports are estimated to rise by 10% on the year to 3.9mn tons.
  • LNG imports into Thailand are estimated to increase by 4% on the year to 6.6mn tons this summer.
  • Singapore’s LNG imports this summer are expected to surge by 39% to 3.8mn tons.
