Spain Gas Use Fell 21% In Aug-Dec 2022

Spanish gas consumption fell by 21% compared to the five-year average to around 120TWh in the Aug-Dec period last year, energy minister Teresa Ribera said.

  • An increase in combined cycle gas generation, higher renewable output and a decrease in electricity consumption weighed on gas demand, Ribera added.
  • Electricity consumption fell by 7.5% for the same period.
  • The minister recently announced Spain intends to seek permission from the EU to extend the temporary cap on gas prices used by power plants to the end of 2024.
  • Spanish gas storage levels stood at 93.49% of capacity on 14 Jan, Agsi data show.
