Free AccessState Election Exit Polls Paint Divided Picture Ahead Of 2024 Vote
Exit polls have been published for several states following elections held in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana during the course of November. Full results are set to be released on 3 December. These are the last set of state elections scheduled to take place before the 2024 general election due in April-May, and therefore are garnering significant focus. In particular the three elections in the 'Hindi belt' states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
- In Madhya Pradesh exit polls are divided, with some pointing towards a win for the incumbent Hindu nationalist BJP of PM Narendra Modi, others stating that the main opposition Indian National Congress (INC) are set to take power, and finally a number projecting a hung Legislative Assembly with no one party holding a majority.
- The BJP look likely to have won back control of Rajasthan from the INC, with most exit polls projecting a BJP majority and a smaller number stating there is likely to be a hung parliament. None are projecting a majority for the INC. In Chhattisgarh, the INC look likely to have held off a challenge from the BJP albeit with a much-reduced majority.
- In Telangana, exit polls have the opposition INC ousting the incumbent regionalist BRS, while in the far-eastern state of Mizoram on the Burmese border the incumbent regionalist MNF looks set to remain the largest party but it is unclear whether it will require support from other parties.
