State Security Cabinet To Meet Over Threat Of Clash With Iran

Local media outlets reported that Israel's Security Cabinet will convene next week to discuss preparations for a potential multi-front conflict with Iran and Hezbollah amid heightened concerns over Tehran's nuclear programme.

  • The State Security Cabinet (SSC) is a body consisting of key ministers headed by the Prime Minister tasked with outlining and implementing foreign and defence policy. It purpose is to make quick and effective decisions in time of crisis.
  • Channel 12 reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant will hold a security assessment on Sunday. These activities follow the IAEA's decision to close a probe into an Iranian nuclear site.
  • Israeli officials have sharpened their rhetoric on Iran, with Netanyahu saying yesterday that "Israel will do what it must to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear bomb," while Gallant warned that “we may be required to fulfil our duty” to the state.
