Stoltenberg To Meet w/Biden & CEE Leaders @ 1445CET
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will hold a meeting with US President Joe Biden in Warsaw, Poland at 1445CET (0845ET/1345GMT) today to round off the US leader's trip to the coalface of the war in eastern Europe. The leaders of the 'Bucharest Nine' (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia) will also be in attendance.
- In an impassioned address on 21 Feb, Biden stated that “Putin thought NATO would break, but NATO is more united than ever before," adding that the US' commitment to the Article 5 mutual defence pact was "rock solid."
- Biden also stated that further sanctions would be imposed on Moscow, a key request for the more hawkish Bucharest Nine members such as Poland and the Baltic States.
- Putin expected to address a mass rally/concert at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow later today.
