Swiss PV Capacity Climbs to 6.8GW

Switzerland’s installed PV capacity reached 6.8GW at the end of April, with 602MW of additional capacity added in the first four months of 2024, according to firm Pronovo, cited by PV magazine.

  • Around 200MW of newly connected capacity for rooftop PV installations over 100 kW, with around 35MW across 260 projects between 2kW-150kW of capacity installed.
  • 367MW of PV plants below 100kW in size were installed, with a peak of 197MW reported in May.
  • Switzerland added 1.5GW of PV in 2023, up from 1GW in 2022 and just 683MW in 2021.
  • The country is on track to increase PV capacity by 2 GW/yr in 2027 – when about 35TWh of PV will be consumed, according to the Swiss PV association Swissolar.
